Recently, several sources have speculated as to whether or not Microsoft is planning to purchase Citrix. Some sources said that Microsoft would buy Citrix before VMware’s VMworld Conference, but clearly that did not happen. However, it is thought that an announcement, if at all, might be made in the next few days.

This month, the Xen hypervisor was named the “Best of Open Source Software (BOSSIE)” award for the category of server virtualization from InfoWorld. Today Citrix has launched their new line of desktop virtualization product. It is available in 5 different editions: free express, standard, advanced, enterprise, and platinum editions. In November, Citrix launched an industry-first move to make XenServer part of it’s Partner Channel network and provide web-based technical training on the new member of it’s product family. This makes XenServer the Citrix proclaimed: “easiest-to-use server virtualization solution the easiest for channel partners to learn about and start selling.”
