Get Into Your PowerShell: VMware Infrastructure Toolkit

We all know that PowerShell is the way of the future… at least for administrators in the Microsoft world.  Now, VMware admins won’t be left out of all of the PS scripting fun!  A couple weeks ago, VMware released version 1.0 of their Infrastructure Tooklit for Windows.  Get it here! The toolkit includes more than 120 commandlets. Now, tasks that would have required PERL and the console to automate, such as cloning, starting or stopping virtual machines, or moving virtual machines between hosts can be done with a few easy-to-write PS commands.

The toolkit bascially allows you to write C# and PowerShell script directly against the VMware API’s.  They have even put out a developer’s guide to help you along the way.

And, if that wasn’t enough, VMware has also released a helpful GUI plug-in utility for the VI Client to get you directly into the PowerShell action.  Check out the details on the blog.
