Microsoft Address VM Patch Management with Beta tool

Patch management is a hot topic in the virtual community right now. VMWare has its new Update Manager tool which starts to address how to keep VM libraries patched and up-to-date with the same ease as physical, always-on hardware.

Microsoft has debuted Beta 1 on Microsoft Connect of its solution to address the same problem in Hyper-V called “Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool.” The tool is still in a fairly primitive state. It powers on dormant machines, updates then, and then puts them back to rest. It integrates with System Center Virtual Machine Manager and of course PowerShell and WSUS.

We’ll give it a try shortly and provide some more information on exactly how well it works.
