VMware is probably already the most trusted hypervisor vendor in the industry. However, one of the top barriers to virtualization adoption are security concerns centered around the “putting all your eggs into one basket” theory. Essentially, you have theoretically focused your attackable surface area into one (or at least fewer) vulnerable server instead of a full datacenter of disparate systems.
On February 27th, VMware announced it’s new security technology, VMSafe which integrates directly into the hypervisor layer and protects guest systems from modern attacks. But, what’s more is that VMware has the endorsement of at least 20 security vendors on it’s new security framework (Symantec, McAfee, RSA, etc. are among the list). VMSafe basically provides API access for these vendors to right next-gen (aka Virualization) security applications to protect at the host level and not just the guest level.
