US Navy Chooses Xen for Virtualization

The Navy Exchange Service Command, or NEXCOM, is the headquarters for the worldwide Navy Exchange System that oversees 107 Navy Exchange facilities and 344 stores throughout the globe. It provides authorized customers with quality goods and services at a savings and supports quality of life programs for active duty military, retirees, reservists and their families.

According to a report from Novell, Using Xen running on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server they have already been able to collapse 45 servers down to 10. They are looking to collapse 40 more by the end of this year. The primary advantage? They can now manage a large, globally dispersed network with a relatively small centralized IT staff, ultimately saving in the hundreds-of-thousands of dollars.
